Salomon S/MAX 12 skis are a high-performance on-piste carving setup for advanced skiers who want a highly precise feel on groomed slopes. With a 68 mm waist, 12 m radius and race-inspired construction, the S/MAX 12 offers fast edge-to-edge transitions while remaining designed for all-day skiing rather than just racing between the gates.

Salomon S/MAX 12 skis – main advantages

The Karuba / Poplar Full Woodcore combines poplar and lighter karuba wood. With this construction, Salomon aims to balance stability, responsiveness and reduced inertia. Double Ti on both sides of the core increases grip and precision, especially on hard morning snow and when applying stronger pressure during turns.

Full Sandwich Sidewalls and 7 mm ABS sidewalls provide a more direct connection between the skier, core and edge. Salomon also specifies a 7° Side Edge Angle, supporting quick turn initiation and control when terrain or speed puts greater demands on the skier.

Power Control System and Race Plate P749

The Power Control System, or PCS, uses cork inserts combined with a Titanal layer. The purpose of the system is to dampen vibrations and maintain contact with the snow without sacrificing the construction’s energy. This is one of the main differences compared with the more recreational S/MAX models.

The Race Plate P749 adds a more performance-oriented platform under the binding. The set includes the skis, plate and I12 bindings, creating a complete system in which the components are designed to work together. This is important for energy transmission and the feel under the boot.

Who are they designed for?

The S/MAX 12 is a good choice for skiers with well-developed technique who enjoy carving and want a ski that can handle speed without requiring a pure FIS racing ski. Compared with the S/MAX 10, the construction is more demanding, with greater support and a stronger focus on precision on hard snow.

Our available lengths are 165, 170 and 175 cm; the 180 cm option was removed due to late delivery. When choosing the length, height, weight, speed and desired turn radius should all be taken into account.

Feel on groomed slopes

On freshly groomed slopes, the S/MAX 12 uses its narrow 68 mm waist and powerful construction for very fast transitions from edge to edge. When the piste becomes harder or more uneven, Double Ti and PCS help maintain stability. The model is sporty enough for aggressive carving while still being more suitable for all-day skiing than a pure race ski.

How to choose the right length?

A shorter length provides greater agility and a shorter turn feel, while a longer ski offers more stability. For an advanced skier, weight and speed should also be considered, as a ski that is too short can lose stability more quickly under strong pressure.

Maintenance and preparation

To maintain precision, regularly check the edges, base and binding settings. Performance carving models quickly reveal the difference between a well-prepared and poorly prepared edge, especially on hard artificial snow.
