Salomon Flexcell Back Protector – Protection Without Restricting Movement
The main advantage of the Flexcell is the combination of protection and flexibility. Salomon’s Flexcell 4D construction is designed to adapt to the body’s movements. This means that the protector does not act like a rigid plate, but follows the torso while skiing, walking, sitting on a chairlift and during other movements on the slopes.

Choosing the correct size is important for protection, as the insert must cover the appropriate part of the back and remain in place during movement.
CE EN 1621-2 Level 1
The Salomon Flexcell is certified according to the EN 1621-2 Level 1 standard for back protectors. The certification confirms that the protective element has been tested in accordance with the standard’s impact-absorption requirements. The protector is therefore designed to reduce impact energy in the back area, but of course cannot prevent all injuries.
When using the protector, it is important that the protective insert is not damaged, torn or deformed and that the size is suitable for the user. After a significant fall, it is advisable to inspect the protection, even if no damage is immediately visible.
Breathability and Comfort
Protective equipment is only useful if the user actually wants to wear it all day. That’s why Salomon uses breathable mesh and a perforated protective insert structure. Salomon’s official description states a high level of breathability, while the stretchy and lightweight material contains 100% recycled mesh.
This construction helps to release heat and moisture during more intense skiing. This is particularly important when the protector is worn underneath several layers of clothing.
Fit Adjustment
The Flexcell features an adjustable Velcro® waist strap and a simple fastening system on the chest. This allows the protection to adapt to the body and remain more stable while skiing. Proper adjustment does not mean tightening it as much as possible; the protector should be secure enough to stay in place, but it should not restrict breathing or movement.
Removable Protective Insert
The protective foam can be removed, making it easier to wash the textile part. This is practical for regular use, as protective equipment is worn directly over the base layer and can quickly absorb moisture. Before washing, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and remove the protective insert.

How to Choose the Right Size?
The protective insert must sit correctly on the back and should not move too high or too low during movement. Choose the size based on body height, torso circumference and Salomon’s size chart. When trying on the protector, we recommend wearing it together with the base layer you normally use for skiing.
Flexcell or Flexcell Pro?
The Flexcell is a classic lightweight back protector with straps. The Flexcell Pro integrates the protection into a vest and uses a Quick Link system together with an additional textile construction. If you want minimal material and a simple protector, the Flexcell is a sensible choice; if you prefer the feel of a vest and greater integration of the protection with the garment, take a look at the Flexcell Pro.
