Salomon S/LAB Equipe SL Skis are slalom-oriented race skis for highly experienced skiers who want a feel close to the competition world while also using the skis on open slopes. The 121-68-105 mm geometry and 11 m radius are designed for quick turn initiation, explosive rebound and a highly direct edge-to-edge response.

Salomon S/LAB Equipe SL Skis – Construction

Full Ash Woodcore uses a full ash wood core, which Salomon describes as a construction inspired by race cores. The aim is high stability, dynamics and responsiveness. Two layers of Titanal further increase precision and edge grip on hard snow, where edge quality is crucial with a model like this.

Full Sandwich Sidewalls and 7 mm ABS sidewalls are designed for precise edge-to-snow contact and high structural support. Salomon also specifies a 7° Side Edge Angle, which helps with quick turn initiation and maintaining control on steeper or harder surfaces.

Power Control System and Race Plate

The Power Control System, or PCS, combines cork inserts with a Titanal layer. Its purpose is to reduce unwanted vibrations without taking away the main energy of the construction. This is important during short, aggressive turns, where the skier wants stable contact with the snow while maintaining a quick and lively exit from the turn.

The Race Plate P98 is included in the set and provides the connection between the ski and a suitable race binding. Important: this product includes the skis and plate, but not the bindings. This is essential information when comparing prices and building the final setup.

Who are they designed for?

The model is designed for advanced and highly advanced skiers with strong technique. The ski requires an active edge position and sufficient pressure for the construction to fully respond. For a recreational skier who primarily wants an effortless ride, it may be too demanding; for someone looking for precision, energy and a slalom character, this is its main advantage.

On-snow feel

On hard morning pistes, the combination of the Full Ash core, Double Ti and Full Sandwich sidewalls comes into its own. The S/LAB Equipe SL is designed for rapid edge changes and short turns, so it performs best for skiers who know how to progressively build pressure through the turn and then quickly release the ski for the next transition. This is not a model where the geometry does all the work on its own; the skier must actively use the construction.

Difference between the S/LAB and commercial race setup

When purchasing, it is important to know exactly what the product includes. The S/LAB Equipe SL is a ski with a race plate and without bindings, allowing the buyer to choose a compatible race binding and create a more individual setup. The Equipe SL Pro, on the other hand, is a commercial race setup that already includes I12 bindings. Therefore, a direct price comparison between the two models without considering what is included in each set is not meaningful.

The S/LAB version is particularly interesting for skiers who know which binding they want, require a more specialized setup and want a race platform as the foundation for their configuration.

How to choose the right length?

With a race model like this, length should be selected primarily according to the intended use, technique, body weight and desired speed. A shorter length is more direct and agile, while a longer length provides greater stability. Because this is a highly performance-oriented model, choosing the correct length is more important than with a softer recreational ski.

Maintenance and Preparation

To maintain the race feel, the edges and base should be maintained regularly. A dull or damaged edge can quickly reduce the advantage of such a precise construction. Before serious use, it is advisable to check the basic preparation, followed by servicing according to the number of ski days and snow conditions.
