Salomon S/MAX 8 skis are an on-piste carving setup for skiers who want a precise and sporty feel on groomed slopes without the demanding nature of highly race-oriented models. The 2026/27 model uses 120 / 72 / 105 mm geometry, a 12 m radius and a set consisting of skis, plate and M10 bindings. Salomon classifies it as an intermediate-level model and equips it with the new Dual Core 2, HT Tri Axial Fiber and Edge Amplifier SL.
Salomon S/MAX 8 skis – who are they designed for?
The S/MAX 8 is designed for skiers who spend most of their time on groomed slopes and want to progress their edge control. The 72 mm waist underfoot maintains fast edge-to-edge transitions while providing slightly more stability and versatility than very narrow race skis. The 12 m radius gives the model a strong preference for short and medium-length carving turns.
Salomon classifies the model as Intermediate and uses an On-Piste Profile. This means it is not designed as a competition ski, but as a high-performance ski for groomed resorts, where skiers can benefit from good grip, responsiveness and stability without requiring aggressive race technique.
Dual Core 2 and Ash insert
The Dual Core 2 core is a sandwich construction combining an ash insert with high-energy-transmission triaxial fiber. With this construction, Salomon aims to balance stability, energy and lower overall weight. The S/MAX 8 therefore remains lively enough for carving without being unnecessarily heavy or stiff.
HT Tri Axial Fiber is a densely woven fiberglass designed to increase torsional stiffness. Greater torsional support helps transfer the skier’s pressure more efficiently to the edge, which is particularly important on hard morning snow or during faster edge transitions.
Edge Amplifier SL – more grip without excessive stiffness
An important technology on this model is Edge Amplifier SL. Salomon states that the redesigned two-piece SL version provides 30% more edge grip while maintaining the right amount of flex underfoot. The goal is greater reactivity, agility and grip without making the ski too stiff for an intermediate skier.
Semi Sandwich Sidewalls help transfer energy to the edge, while Salomon uses 100% recycled ABS for the sidewalls. The Easytrak one-piece plate connects the ski with the M10 binding and forms a complete system.
Feel on snow
On groomed slopes, the character of the S/MAX 8 is most noticeable in its fast edge-to-edge transitions and forgiving turn initiation. A skier who already knows how to control pressure through a turn can make good use of the Edge Amplifier and torsional support, while less experienced skiers will find the model less demanding than the S/MAX 12 or Equipe models.
Compared with the S/MAX 10, the S/MAX 8 is somewhat less focused on maximum power in its construction. The S/MAX 10 adds a Titanal insert, while the S/MAX 8 relies primarily on Dual Core 2, HT Tri Axial Fiber and Edge Amplifier SL. The S/MAX 8 is therefore a good choice if you want a sporty carving feel without needing the additional stiffness of the higher-end model.

Choosing the length
Our confirmed delivery includes 155 and 160 cm. When choosing the length, do not consider height alone. Weight, speed, technical ability and whether you prefer a more agile or more stable feel should also be taken into account. A shorter length will turn more quickly, while a longer one will generally provide greater stability at higher speeds.
Servicing and preparation
For carving skis, edge quality is very important. Even a good construction cannot provide proper grip if the edges are dull or damaged. We recommend regularly checking the edges, base and binding settings, especially if you frequently ski on hard artificial snow.
